vinny after finding out what tornados anti-crusher thingy is are you working on a anti anti-crusher mechanism or just leaving it?

I was wondering the other day if tornadoes anti-crusher set up is actually a cone shape to put on the top of the bot? Razer can't claw cone shapes, and if Tornado was fighting a crusher then it won't need it's invertability would it?

Think Razer Vs Bodyhammer, razer wouldn't be able to do anything becuase of the shape.

Thoughts? :)

Hey-my internet connection actually worked! It hasnt been working recently. I bet no one missed me. Anyway......the fight:

It was a good fight with a questionable judges decision. This is in the World Championships for this year. I was impressed by both Tornado and Razer in that fight and Tornado in the finals.

My 2 cents

For those people in the UK who didnt see the episode we are talking about here: The four UK robots that competed were Razer, Tornado, Kat3, and Wowot. There were also 4 American robots that were in it aswell and I believe only one robot from America might sound familiar.

Heres what the starting match-ups looked like:
US fight: Manta vs Joker
UK fight: Wowot vs Tornado
US fight: Brawler vs General Chompsalot
UK fight: Kat3 vs Razer

It was pretty entertaining

My 2 cents

my thoughts
fight 1:joker's wepon isn't very good
fight 2:i liked wowot but i knew from the beginning that it wouldn't stand a chance
fight 3:meh... thet're both pretty good but brawler was just the right shape and size.....
fight 4:yay razer!

(manta vs CAL):i liked manta but their wepon just kept getting slooowwwwer annnndddddd sssslllloooowwwweeerrr
(razer vs tornado): damn you tornado, damn you to hell!
final: tornado dominates like i thought it would
the USA bots they put on have got to get better... hey where's drillzilla???

Tybaltus,
Mick referred to it as the International Championship. It wasn't really much of one since the last one had six countries represented but it certainly was not a World Champioinship. They did refer to Razer as the reigning World Champion though.

Heres my reaction to the 4 fights:

fight 1: Manta vs Joker
Manta's weapon was much stronger than expected-though Manta was a huge favorite and Joker was outmatched

fight 2: Wowot vs Tornado
Oh well. I really liked Wowot. Bash just ended it when he pierced Wowot. Bash didnt give him much of a chance-but nice try, Adam!

fight 3: Gen. Chompsalot vs Brawler
Brawler didnt have much hope. He fit right into Chompsalot's mouth. And eventually dragged into the pit. I was surprised at how strong those jaws were.

fight 4: Razer vs Kat3
certainly not surprising. Razer was certainly the supreme robot, though it looked like Kat3's weapon was decent. Razer was just too much for Kat3 to take, though.

semi 1: General Chompsalot vs Manta
Not surprised here, either. Manta was just the right size for Chompsalot's mouth. Though it did go the distance-Manta put up a good fight but Chompsalot had the power.

semi 2: Tornado vs Razer
The contravercial fight-sort of. Ive talked a lot about this one on a different thread. Razer should have won the close decision because it had better weaponery and had caused more damage. It worked hard to breach the body of Tornado and took a couple bites-along with disposing of Tornado's weapon engine. Tornado did well in the pushing match part of the fight and so it would have been a close decision but in my mind, Razer should have one in a 2-1 decision.

final: General Chompsalot vs Tornado
No surprise-Tornado won the pushing match and avoided the jaws. It was over in an eyeblink.

As far as Drillzilla-I think that kind of a walker was banned from robot wars. Some good USA robots this year in Robot Wars: Rosie the Riveter, Tricerabot, Panzer MK??, Destructive Criticism, also The Bat (though it didnt win its heat), and Probaphobia (also didnt win its heat).

Kevin-youre probably right.

My 2 cents

tornado has designed an anti-crusher device to help them beat razer
i am hopeing that they have something to counteract it

i wouldn't be suprised if Razer changed shape a bit and suddenly sported a flywheel if it ever faced the new Anti-crusher Tornado! :O

Oooh No. Tornado's Anti Crusher weapon is far far far better than a just a wedge !

graham booth (Bloodyell)

Thursday, July 18, 2002 - 07:51 pm
americans and canadians have seen it i don't like it because it works
but it does look like it could be beaten by a wedge
however at the end of the fight razer started getting past it and it looked like they might have bent the frame a bit
razer also demolished the weapon

A good point there. I haven't seen the anti-crusher mechanism on Tornado. To anything though a backup wedge always comes in handy. It doesn't need to be a good one either.

Ex: Many flippers shape their fronts like wedges so that even if the arms aren't working they can just wedge under and push.

Spinners like Minion and Hazard have backup wedges in care their weapons break.

Tornado. I wouldn't say it was an underdog after what it did in extreme but it dosen't seem to get mentioned enough. I think Tornado has a very good chance of doing well.

Unfortunately, due to work I missed the first part of tthe show on 23/8/02 but what I did see was brilliant!

Diotoir pitted Tornado!!! How was this possible?

However, Spawn Again managed to beat Diotoir in the final.

Today is a proud day for Irish bots everywhere, and me. Way to go Diotoir!!!

Tornado seemed to run out of juice, they'd been pushing Diotoir around with relative ease although Diotoir was able to devlect them with their shuvel (yes shuvel!) a few times. The way the show was edited we saw Diotoir running for the pit release, we didn't know exactly what was up with Tornado but as Diotoir started pushing them towards the pit it was obvious there was ometing amiss.

Looking at the overal shape, I think Tornado would have had quite a tough time against Spawn. The whole robot is practically a (very low) wedge, and I could easily see Tornado running up the sides.

What happened to us in Series 5 against Diotoir? A drive sprocket broke, severing the chain and jamming the wheels. It's a part that had been on Tornado since day one - we now make sure we change them once a year ;)

Well done to Diotoir, their clever wedged front meant Tornado's front wheels got lifted off the ground every time we rammed them, and thus they were very hard to push indeed! Once our chain went it was easy for Diotoir to push us in the pit.

Andrew
